How did your favorite movies did on Oscar night?

1 Here is a post that I guess is easier to me to write than the "Five things meme".  The idea of this post is to write which were your favorite movies to receive Oscars and how you think thet did on Oscar night.  maybe one of your favorites got an Oscar, but you were expecting five.  Maybe your favorite movie spend the night without much glory.

I am tagging friends Angela, Marcos, Keith, Chiva Congelado and Katya to get their take on this topic.  Be sure to check out their blogs to see how their favorites did.

My three favorites for Oscar night were: Babel, An Inconvenient Truth and Little Miss Sunshine.

Babel did not did as well as everybody expected.  The movie is a great accomplishment by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu.  The movie is very strong and has some scenes that really touched me very deeply (such as when the deaf-mute Japanese girl goes on a disco).  It was nominated for six Academy awards and only got one for its soundtrack.  However, in a very nice development for all of us Mexican's Pan's Labyrinth from Mexican director Guillermo del Toro rounded up the night with three awards out of six nominations.

An Inconvenient Truth did really well getting the awards for Best Documentary Feature and Best Achievement in Original Music.  This last award did great against the three nominations that Dreamgirls had.  It is really good that Al Gor got this award as this will help continue to raise the awareness on Global Warming.

And finally Little Miss Sunshine, without a doubt the most refreshing comedy in many years.  The independent film about a disfunctional family that finds its way on the road got the awards for best original script and best supporting actor.  If you have not seen it, please do yourself a favor and go and see it.  You will not be dissapointed.  Just be prepared to laugh out loud like a child over the climax of the movie.

In summary, not a bad night.  It was worth staying up until 2 AM local time last night. Chek the complete listing of nominees and winners here.

Hi Ricardo, thanks for the tag! I'll do my best! Laughing like a child is one of my favorite things to do, so I'll look forward to watching Little Miss Sunshine. I may have to actually *watch* some of the movies first, but I love a challenge, so thank you for thinking of me. Hope all is well!!!

The fact is that The Oscars is a US-based film industry awards show. That being said, I can digest how superior films like Babel or Letters of Iwo Jima, stories of deep content outside the US, lost to a film about the Boston mob. Which also doesn't mean Scorcese was superb - but even that, probably not Martin's best film (remember Raging Bull?). 2007 Oscar night was rather a ceremony of overdue acknowledgement of greatness. Yes, not a bad night Ricardo.

Roberto, finally responded to your "Oscar" tag. Sorry for the delay, and not exactly sure it's what you were looking for, but....You can find it here: http://www.temasactuales.com/temasblog/?p=212

Ay, Ricardo! Perdoname por favor! I can't believe I typed "Roberto" instead of Ricardo before! I had spoken to my wife's cousin Roberto this past weekend, and guess that was still on my mind. Sorry about that.
Embarassed,
Keith
