Looking for power outlets in World Airports?
If you are like me, you are always carrying around your laptop, iPod and cell phone through a bunch of airports around the world (in my case around Latin America and the US mostly). If this is your case, then you must have been many times thorugh the situation of being out of battery power. No matter how careful you are loading up your batteries, there is always a time in which this happens.
Next thing you have to look for a power outlet at the airport. Power outlet locations are probably the least standardized of the airport infrastructure pieces. They can be found on columns, walls, floors, next to the gates, in the middle of long corridors... Finding a usable plug to juice up your portable devide becomes a frustrating and time consuming task.
As MetaFilter reports today, Jeff Sandquist has started a Wiki page to build a repository of outlet locations in major airports worldwide. I visited the page early this morning, when the news got out and the then visited again a few minutes ago and the idea seems to be taking off very sucessfully. New airports are being added very quickly. You can find the Wiki here and you can also find a flickr group with the photos of the outlets here.
This is another great example of working in a community to solve common problems. I am scheduled to go through Monterrey (MTY), Mexico City (MEX), Santiago (SGL) and Buenos Aires International Airports (EZE) this weekend. I hope I can find a number of plugs to add to the Wiki.
